Those are the only shoes that i ever bought that did not hurt my feet at first... second time i put them on (some might argue that it was foolish), I hiked Long's Peak in Colorado. I did not suffer from any blisters plus those boots protected my ankles beautifully. My hiking party (with Columbias on) used up all of my bandages... They just feel great the first time around: very soft inside, excellent support. They are worth the price. One good tip though: buy a half size bigger pair just so you would be able to fit in a nicer sock... and you are walking on clouds.
Great., 'cheap' hiking shoes
Bought these comfy hiking mini-boots for amature hiking in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee this year after trying on a pair at a serious hiking outfitters. They didn't have my size, but I knew by the way they felt, these were the shoes I wanted. That they were 'cheap' compared to most of the other choices was even better. These are great shoes - quite comfortable, lightweight, needing no break in time. I felt more stable and secure on the trails last week than when I wore regular walking shoes. These are my first ever hiking shoes b/c I just assumed those trusty Reeboks were fine....what a difference! Another nice thing is that they're not just for woods walking....they're nice enough for day trips to the zoo, museums, city parks, even shopping.
Merrell has a line of casual shoes - sandals, loafers, oxfords - that I'll check out in the fall when school starts up and I'm shepherding active 10 year olds.
Great Hiking Boots!
My husband and I love to hike and these boots make it more enjoyable. Other reviews were right on- no break in time is required and they are very comfortable from the first time I put them on. I was a little concerned about hiking over rough terrain because they are so light, but they worked out great whether I was walking on a blacktop road or hiking through rough trails in Tucson mountain park on our last vacation. I've always loved other Merrell shoes and these boots are a winner too. I normally where a 9.5 shoe, and the 10s fit perfectly to allow a little heavier sock for hiking.
